Ambitious online resource contains an incredible wealth of information that kids can access safely. The Digital Public Library of America's mission: to make cultural and scientific works more accessible to the public. With a database searchable by map, timeline, format, and topic, they're hosting well over two million separate records, including text, images, and video. And while the library's vast archives are sometimes tricky to navigate, there's a lot of history to dig into here. Older kids will find the site pretty intuitive, but younger researchers may need a helping hand.
Parents need to know that Discovery Kids is an educational site that encourages discovering all the world has to offer. Articles cover topics about natural disasters, growing up, machines, continents, space, and much more. An activities page provides interactive ideas for recipes, making crafts, designing clothes, and experimenting with science. Games are age appropriate, challenging, and educational, and the online puzzles are fun and entertaining. Parents should know that some games ask for a user name and email address. This is an online math program furnished to the students of Pretty Water School by the Oklahoma State Dept. of Education. It is designed for our third through eighth grade students to review and practice new math skills.
Typing Club is the most effective way to learn how to type. It is web based, and highly effective. Typing Club is (and will always be) free for both individuals and schools. There is an optional paid school edition.
